I asked Dan that very question and he says it was a full on charging attack.  I don't think he went flying in the air like the lady who landed on the shark did, though.

I have one,  when fishing with others, I leave it off, just because if someone did get hit...

Could never live that one down, if it does ring the Dinner bell, still not sure about that...

So, I'm going under the hope that it would be a curiosity thing and I would be able to turn it on in time, but it is not that easy to turn on.

You have to turn this knob a full turn and it does not move easily,  with all that going against me, you would think whats the point, but I'm still glad to have one.

Funny, I have not brought it with me last 4x's ..

does anyone know how long it would hold a charge sitting around?

Guys
Wouldn't an electronic shield also turn off the feeding mode in the big ling under the boat?

A friend of mine in Australia says the shark shield kills crocodiles. Actually does something to their nervous system and kills them.
It's use is discouraged I am told.

Two years ago a fish collector was killed by a big saltwater croc. He could've used one.

andrew, I have one. I use it for BH, but not other places where sharks are probably just as likely.

But you have already done so many stupid things and survived I think you should stay away from them,  :smt002.

Shark Shield Epic Failure:
Quote
As we're certain you know by now, there are fails, and then there are epic fails. This case most definitely falls into the latter category, as Sea Change's shark-deterrent system (affectionately dubbed Shark Shield) was actually bit into by a great white when tested off the coast of South Africa. Reportedly, the device sends out electronic fields that are meant to deter sharks from coming near surfers, but according to the company's CEO, the botched trial was "due to a problem with the electrode's configuration." Furthermore, he noted that the thing is only "guaranteed to work when it's stationary, not when it's surfing in the wave or paddling." Needless to say, the effectiveness of these type devices have now been called into question, and regardless of whether this thing actually works as advertised, the lack of total protection -- you know, while actually surfing -- is enough to make us steer clear.

Ya,

That one is old news...  while moving, it's quite possible the whip was in and out of the water,

as stated before, no one here thinks this thing is going to stop a Polaris of a GWS that is

 Hell bent on destruction...

But, I do believe it would repel  the " Slightly " curious

The photo above is photoshopped.

seems there's as much MISinformation regarding GWS than there are facts.

Very valid point, and my biggest question about the product as well. However, have you seen the footage from the "seal popper" that Discovery Channel towed behind their boat in South Africa?

Air Jaws II

They got a gws to go airborne at Ano Nuevo within 3 minutes of dropping the decoy in the water.  Nobody thought our sharks would go for broke in a full on surface attack since they're maturated 18 footers and their target food source, elephant seals, are not as agile as those little fur seals in Africa.  They got creative when editing the footage but I'm pretty sure their decoy only got banged once in a couple days worth of trolling.

There was a lot of footage of of sharks in attack mode then not taking the bait at the last minute.  lol...thats something to think about next time you hear a little spalsh and swirling behind you and no sealions surface.
..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker

But all you have to do is touch their nose and they 'drop it'...
