It's one thing to self rescue in a bathing suit and your pfd, but on a cold day in full gear.... it's a lot harder.

Good point. Plus, it is deceptively easy with an empty boat on a calm lake or pool. Add in a crate with rods and leashes, gaffs, nets, etc. in wind waves and chop and it's a whole other ball game. And then add in the pucker factor of dumping in rough seas. If people got into trouble in calm sea it sure would be easier--but that's not the way it usually goes.

Absolutely - that plus being off guard.  I'll admit, I knew when every single dump was happening.  It's different being dumped off guard, swallowing some water, etc.  All things that need to be taken into consideration.

Great post, I was wondering about this event... I might have missed this little point but my 2 cents.. I unclip my paddle when surf landing and stow all my crap in the ole rod-pod, but when crabbing, or when you have fish(!) and you have to use lines to attach stuff to the yak, tie on one side only and keep that side in mind, and unslack the slack lines first, and if you spill, try to stay away from that side, ive got tangled like that before, in three crab ring lines, thankfully in a foot of water, if it was deeper and I couldnt power myself up???...
Still better than getting run over by muni I suppose.

Oh no :smt011 here we go again.  Cue Ben Harper singing/playing "Burn One Down" LOL

NOTE TO SELF: Try to think of clever banter as a distraction to keep this thread PG or at least PG-13. Joel's scaring the fish at this point.

Very well DONE!!!  I was impressed with your dialogue and Kodo's to you giving it where it counts "Safety"

And those were some wicked bruises...one of um looked like a smiley with no smile...

Hats off for some solid Informing....Thanks so much...

Great thread...

P.S.
With your constant witty replies and posts "NewChickKayaker" is no longer "New" maybe "RedHotChickKayker" would be appropriate...because of your "youth" OldChickKayaker would not do...
It's all about Today!!! Because who knows what tomorrow will bring... so Better get OTW n GetSome
