Hey guys,
I just went over 24 hours of official lurking time so I figured I better finally come out of the woodwork and say hello at least.  :smt006 I'm also coming up to visit my family and new little niece the weekend of July 24-26 with my kayak in tow and I want to meet up and do some fishing in Marin.

I've been reading stuff on this site since I was close to saving enough cash to buy a kayak finally and I lurk heavily when I'm missing Nor Cal fishing. I grew up in San Rafael and have lived in other parts of Marin, Santa Cruz, and Humboldt County over the years since graduating from college but I've spent the past couple years in Seattle and now La Jolla. Just got my first kayak less than a month ago, a Cobra Marauder and I'm loving it. I've only had a chance to take it out a couple times here in La Jolla but haven't caught anything too amazing just yet, just a few sand bass and baitfish.

I've fished since I was a kid, I've been heavy into flinging flies since I was 14 (Yup, I'm one of those featherheads), and have mostly been a steelheader since moving to Humboldt back in '04 and during my time in Seattle. Now that I'm in So Cal and living in La Jolla, what a great time to start going full bore in the kayak! I have a lot to learn and have picked up plenty just from reading here. It's been fun to start getting back into conventional fishing and learning the different techniques down this way. But truly, home is where the heart is and I miss Nor Cal. Thanks for providing this amazing site to help me get a window into what's going on up there when I miss my roots.

If anyone has plans to fish the bay, Marin coast, or somewhere nearby the weekend of July 24-26, I'd be up for linking up with you. I have some spots I like to go but have yet to kayak fish in the area so I could probably be talked into fishing anywhere.
Be the guide.

Now that was the complete opposite of post padding...lurkers take note.  Welcome to the Madness, SlayRide!  I'd LOVE to fish La Jolla...I'm jealous!  I'm busy the weekend of the 25th but I'm sure some of the other guys will try to meet up with you.  Have fun!

We are all going to be at Albion that weekend :smt009
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

I plan to be in SD the last week of July, ~10 days or so.  I plan to bring the yak and would enjoy getting out.  See you then.  Hope your trip goes well.

I did notice that the reports were gone when I logged on and I wondered why for a few days. I thought there was something wrong with the site until I discovered the thread about the change. This "discovery" was at the exact same time I noticed I had gone over the 24 hour mark of time logged on. That's a full day of lurk time without a post! Time to start contributing, eh?

I have to say I completely agree with the hiding of reports to all but those who've contributed. I'd even take it further and say it should be 100 posts or something more substantial. I'd be willing to put up with that as a newbie. I've seen it before where accurate reporting adds to the crowds at certain spots. We also forget that the good report sites are checked quickly by many stakeholders. Example: when the squid bite goes off in La Jolla, it is often only a handful of the dudes that are on top of it reaping the benefits for a few days. Once the word is leaked over the internet, it is unbelievably crowded. That might be inevitable as word spreads anyways but the unfortunate thing is that the commercial squid boats also look for this info and once a squid bite is reported on the internet, the next night there are squid boats out there scooping them all up - ruining the bite and harvesting all the food sources for the yts and wsb. Boo Hiss!

Abking, I think we may have had an exchange on youtube about the use of treble hooks on the Eel? If so, sorry if I came off a little confrontational. That's just my favorite river and I am fairly opinionated when it comes to steelhead populations on the Endangered Species List. I have seen on this site that you are an extremely ethical fisherman, well-informed, and you make some very cool videos.

Tom, I should be able to sneak out before or after work one day while you're here. If you want company, let's go try for a yellowtail.

JK, crazy stuff with those squid. I was in CT over the weekend (caught one schoolie striper on a popper, nothing on flies, very slow) so this is the first I've heard of it. Very weird.

I appreciate what you've written here, SR.  The small world effect of corresponding with you on youtube and now "meeting" here is pretty cool.  Get in touch when you're up this way.

You might want to check into the Albion event.  It might not be too late to join and somebody will definitely let you crash at their site.  Just food for thought.  Obviously you're somewhat familiar with the ocean, living in La Jolla, although it is a little different of a beast up here.
