A buddy and I went to Willow Creek on Sat 7/11.  Had sort of a rough launch. I think the swell was 4-5 ft. Went south near Cape San Martin and found a reef in about 75-85 FOW. I caught 1 - 18" vermillion, 1 olive, 3 kelp, 1 blue and 1 black. He ended up with about the same for fish. Got hammered a couple of times and thought it was a ling, but must not have set the hook because when I was about to see what it was and all of a sudden gone! Would've stayed out longer but the wind started picking up.

Also there was a shark sighting in the area last month.

Nice fishing.  We were diving down there about a week and a half before that sighting.  :smt107

I think the fish underneath the Vermilion is a Brown (aka Bolina) One can tell by the dark spot near the opercular spines.

thanks for the intel.  Did you see the shark sign before or after your day?  My son and I saw ours after.  We just looked at each other and grinned.

Saw the sign before we went out. If it is my time, it is my time. There were plenty of tastier treats (seals) out there. LOL.
