NB 7/11/09  and... SC  7/12/09

What a great wife I have, Fished Saturday, and SHE suggested I fish Sunday as well, (she fishes too)...

So yeah, had a 2-day fishing weekend, great weather and great company.

First let me sum of the conditions for both locations, FALT AND CALM.

SATURDAY 7/11...
Met up with EWb and Zisco at the CAP beach, fishing by 6:30ish. We spent about 30 minutes jigging up a few lives bait, it was everywhere (at NB) but we did have to sort threw the kingfish, haven't got a kingfish in years so this was a surprise. Pesky little bitches. Got our bait and headed to the not so secret, secret spot for the hali drift... Got one BIG take down..... But I got a little carried away and ripped the bait of the fishes mouth, Gone! The bait was scratched and the face was ripped of the bait fish, just a nubby bone left... Drifted for a few hours with live bait for zero. Eventually managed a decent rockfish from the kelp. Two fish sandwiches, one for the wife and one for myself. Relaxing day, good times. EWB and Zisco are great guys. Thanks for the company guys, lets do it again.

SUNDAY 7/12
Again launched at the CAP beach at 5:45 and headed straight for the point, drifted a hour or two for halis in 45 FOW, ended up drifting well into the santa cruz harbor area. NO BUTTS, so Stoggie and I headed for the not so secret secret spot in the kelp at a secret place. We pretty much spent the rest of our day here. Lots of rock fish, had 2 in the boat in the first 2 minutes, drift after drift was full of bites, we had the whole spot to ourselves and it was just beautiful out. I had a few LARGE take downs, one resulted in a snapped line and the other in a bent swim bait hook!!! Errr. Ended up with about 6 rock fish to take home for fish tacos tonight with the wife. I threw a few back too. Also hooked into my first ling from the yak! YEAH! Super fun, the ling ended up being about a inch short so back to the water he went. But what a blast. The bite was hot for a while. Stoggie got a fatty Cabizone, but ill let him add his version of the days events. Great time Stoggie..

Did A LOT of paddling today and Im ready to sleep, fish for dinner. 2 days of fishing what more could I ask for. Nothing of great size for me, but a few new fish and another half limit or so., and a LING, that was my target today, he was not too big, but none the less ......a LING.

As for tackle, the classic hali rig and for today I ran the the swim bait/shrimp fly above.

Good Time at the not so secret, secret spots.

Ignore the dates on the pics, they are wrong.
Also I released the ling, and was sure not to pinch his gills, cheek only. He swam away just perfectly.
Didnt take a pic of the rock fish, but good stash of meat.

Awesome day that started slow.
Kept putting in the time and got a hot bite midday.

Too bad porky's ling had to go back he was just under but had some awesome color.
We both got some big takedowns but were not able to set the hook. One takedown snapped my line, i need to do some maintenance on my reel as the drag is sticking.

Great day and an unusual day for capitola rockfish bite was a blast.
Thanks porky, there's more to come.

Stoggie

I'm game...my only hitch is transportion  :smt009 grounded till Dec 3rd...lifes full of choices...some good, some great, some really Suck...Like Drinking and Driving...I'm gona be the old prude and remind people "Don't Drink AND Drive" not only the danger posed to others...but the loss of fishing freedom IS the hardest to take.... :smt010

But Next year...Game On...got several long time fishing Buddy's that live San Jose area...which is right over the hill from u Porky...you'll have to hook me up on some of these great areas that are in your neck of the woods... :smt001

U making it to Albion???
