It's been years since I've backpacked in the Marble Mountains, but I am thinking of heading up later this month. Anyone know if wilderness permits are required. I don't remember needing them in the past, but maybe things have changed?

Thanks in advance!

You need a campfire permit.  The Marbles do not have a permit requirement like the Trinity Alps and Mt. Shasta.

I love the Marbles.  Where are you going?

OK, I just realized that the above is not a model of clarity.  I'll try again.

You need a campfire permit, available at any USFS, BLM, or Cal-Fire office, and probably elsewhere.  They are free and good for a calendar year.  They look like this:

Some wilderness areas, such as Trinity Alps, Mt. Shasta, and just about all of the areas in the Sierra (and subject to quotas) have implemented a wilderness permit system for overnight use.  The Marble Mountains do not require such a permit.
