Launched a little north of Bean.  Relatively easy launch, but some periodic swell.  Conditions were glassy all day.

Fishing was good.  Caught 12 rockfish (released 9) and 5 cabezone (released 4).  Could not catch any ling, though my buddy caught a nice one (30").  The other three guys I was with had comparable scores.  We used speed jigs and rootbeer scampi's.  Caught more cabezone on speed jigs, which was a new one for me.  There was a ton of bait in the water, and the seals and sea lions were getting fat on it.

I might be up for fishing on Sunday, either same spot or south by the lighthouse.  Though I'd really like to find someone who's willing to go to Franklin point, as I am feeling lacking being ling-less today.

Hello,

If you go to North Bean on Sunday, I'd sure like to tag along.  I have an older WS Ride. It's no great shakes in the surf.

Nice cabs dude. BTW, when you say easy launch, is it easier than BH? If it is, it
maybe the place for me then. I am still learning how to read these wave sets.

Congrat on your catches.  Thanks for the report and picture.

On the launch, it is different than Bean, and I would say slightly harder and very different.  Bean is a beach break, and this is a reef break.  Waves break further from landing at this spot.  You launch and land through a tight set of "jaws" - about 20 feet wide.  Like any reef break, it's easier at high tide.  But it can be pretty fun (really) surfing in here, as the reef will get you at least waste high break even on very low swell days.

When I launched on Friday - despite a low swell - I still had a wave break on the front of my kayak and soak me before I started to fish.

I might go Sunday, or hit Linda Mar for stripers, or...go to work and catch up on what I didn't do last week as I spent too much time thinking about fishing.

i have launched at a parking lot about 1/2 mile north of Bean Hollow, also called Bean Hollow State Park. It has a small turn-around parking area and a bathroom. I think the beach there is called Shell Beach or Pebble Beach - does this sound familiar?

The launch there is actually quite easy, I've found. Because it's rocky, the break is consistent and there is one narrow spot where the waves don't break and I've launched and landed there several times without incident.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Malibu Two - this launch is a little north of the one you mentioned.  I have wanted to try that one, as well, but for various reasons haven't.  You can find our launch from the picture - the signs give it away.

Cool...I highly recommend my launch. Easy parking, a short carry down the stairs, a bathroom, and from what I've seen, no break in one small spot. You need to watch the water for a few minutes to figure it out.
