Went to Timber Cove and got lucky.  Started with a nice vermillion, then a nice small ling (26", 5.7#).  I can now say happy 4th.  Later I got another bite that felt like another small ling (let a 19" and 20" go) so I started to reel up, got about 15' and the fish then decided that the bottom was where it wanted to be.  Got it turned and slowly coming up.  Looked down and all I saw was a big mouth and teeth.  OH SH--!!!!!  Net??? or Gaff???  Net was bigger so grabbed that and slid it under the head and part of the body.  Lowered the rod tip and the fish obliged by slidding into the net, put my rod down quick and grabbed both sides of the net.  Good thing as the fish went crazy, hook fell out, I'm getting a soaking.  My son came over and applied the wacker several times to quiet the fish.  I started breathing again and trying to figure out what to do.  Hooked up the fish, laid it across my lap and took a measurement  (36", biggest fish on this yak.  Later on shore weighed it  18#, o lordy thats big).  Definety a big ling, now I can really celebrate.  After that all I got was a couple of gophers, let them go.  All of this took place in about 40 - 50 foot of water.  3 oz lead head with a 8" brown paddle tail (squid teaser on hook)

Beautiful ling, WTG

This is the first report I've seen from Timber cove, how was the launch, we used to go out of there with inflatables, last time I stopped by the lady said $6 per yak,

did you get to park on the beach or up top,

Again nice ling..

That is a nice fish. Really aggressive hits are the best. Goes to show that those guys really dont take prisoners they eat them. Timber Cove is a flat spot when the ocean gets bumpy.
