Mojo workin'

So, during the winter one of my smaller creations was a wooden fish hook with a bit of ab shell for the barb. I originally carved it as a pendant (& wore it to the AOTY BBQ at Aquan) but it really was just too big for that. I decided it would become my 2009 yak mojo, and hung it on the bow of the tarpon in preparation for the trip Sunday. I wasn't sure if it would work, but a ling limit showed that it was doing its job!

Nice....I carved one out of bone but I agree a bit to large to actually wear so its on my rearview mirror. I got some koa wood when I was in Hawaii last month and I wanna try and make some from that.

Koa is beautiful stuff. I have an old surfer's journal magazine that shows Greg Noll building some koa wood longboards.
I used a piece of madrone that PG&E trimmed off our tree last fall.

yeah it was pretty cool we were on Kauai and this little shop had some beautiful koa furniture and right next to the register was a bag of koa scraps for $20. So I picked it up. I am sure the TSA was wondering what the hell was in my bag. But I am sure they have seen stranger items.
