Check out this link for Halibut rigs.  I use the #2 rig called "dropper loop rig" but with 12" length to sinker and 36" length to #2 hook.

I also use a slido (plastic sliding sinker do hickey) vs a standard 3 way swivel. I also add a small amount of mono the the slido snap so my weight can drag. I like this set up b/c on a drift the hali can take the bait and not feel the weight

troll into the current (you want some water movement).

watch the MASTER's...  they cover some ground with their mirage drives, as opposed to drifting lazily.

Thanks for the info everyone. I ended up going to ARW Sunday to try out my new found knowledge, thinking that Paradise would be too windy. ARW was flat and calm until 10am, then wind picked up just a bit. Gorgeous day. Met up with alameda at the parking. He scored a killer deal on a hobie with turbo fins. I'm jealous.
Anyhow, we drifted the deep pockets along the wall with dead chovies. alameda ended up with one small shark. For me, nada. That's 0-6 on halibut. I've gotta break that trend soon, or my wife would think I went somewhere else and just using fishing as an excuse.

You need a camera.  Take pictures and show her the proof  :smt003

Hey Sailfish do u just tie a normal dropper loop and then just cut it at the line to make it so that its not a loop and just a single line...

Thanks
Ryan

My rig is as follow:

- I use a small quality 3 way swivel.
- 30 lbs Power Pro braid line for the main line.
- 12" of 14 lbs mono to the torpedo sinker (2 to 6 oz depend on the current).
- 36" of fluorocarbon to a #2 or #1 (depend on the size of live bait).

That's it.  I keep it simple.  Some people add flasher and/or stinger hook but that's optional.

Still 0 for 5 on halibut but on Sailfish's recommendation I cut off my treble stinger hook and immediately picked off a striper. I was always picking up bay gunk on the treble anyway and maybe the fish can spot the gunked up stinger. It's not gonna go back on. I also have begun using a 5" anchovy fish trap instead of a cannonball weight as my friend Will has had good luck with 2 hali's biting on that. Good luck to all of us hali-skunks. :smt005..... jim

You won't catch Halibut by fishing immediately adjacent to the Berkeley Pier.
I can't catch    a n y t h i n g    in & about the pier & it's structure.
This mystifies me, but......there it is.

When people talk about "fishing" and "berkeley" they seem mostly to mean
the "flats north of Berkeley"....off the racetrack & north.
