I went up to the north end of indian valley with my buddy.  When we arrived in the morning the wind was from the south and it was blowing hard.  There were large waves craching against the shore and big whitecaps.  We decided to drive farther up into the cash creek arm and found some bice looking water.  After fishing for about 15 minutes the wind changed direction and started gusting VERY hard straight down the arm we were in.  We finally were able to paddle back up wind to the car and went home.  I feel like the wind keeps ruining my fishing trips lately :smt012 . I did catch one small bass.  On the way up there along highway 20 we saw a nice 4x4 buck walking right along the highway.  I am ready to go deer hunting!

There is one way to avoind the wind. Take a sail board with you. I swear when I was into sailboarding and fishing, the opposite would always happen. Especially at Rio Vista. If I was going to go fishing at Rio Vista the wind would scream, take my board to go sailing, dead calm.
Just bring it along and psyche Mother Nature out.
I was talking with Al and we were discussing the possibilities of a quick overnighter to the coast soon. Probably near the end of the month.I can haul 6 yaks. Interested?

I have never had a good experience at Indian Valley, no good mojo for me there ever!  Sorry it sucked for you to.

It is the ugliest lake ever but I have caught a lot of fish there and more big bass than anywhere else I have fished.  There seems to be almost no fishing pressure there.  You might see a couple of small boats on the whole lake but they are usually trolling for kokane or trout.

I paid for a guided Koke trip an IVR last year. I'm convinced that kayaks should do well there, as long as you can get down 50-75'. I tried leadcore, it doesn't get down far enough when you use the standard dodger rig, the water resistance of the dodger makes it ride up, so don't believe those 5'/color tables.  I've made a downrigger using a 3lb fishweight and 20lb braid, my ffinder says it's down to 75'.

Busy scheds unfortunately kept me from trying it out this year at IVR, I think the southend is really gorgeous,  and deserted. Lookout for the wind (which typically blows to the dam at the southend) and the submerged trees. And the 45min drivein on a dirt road discourages a lot of PBers.
