Nice ling, Ray. It was good to meet you and Gabe on Saturday, and it looks like you got the prize fish for the day.
My report: Launched from the maverick's parking lot with Frank (captain kayak) and Andy (nontoxic, if I remember right), fished all around the point in water from 30' to 80' deep. Bite was slow but fairly steady. I got two blacks and an underling, had one of the blacks for supper. The ling took a once white split tail scampi, the blacks took white shrimp flies. Conditions were perfect, low swell, no wind, very little drift. Many seals or sea lions everywhere. Not much sun showing but I was too hot all day and also had a bit of sun burn when I got home.

It was really nice meeting you out there on the water fishinmike. I was laughing to myself as I was paddling over to say Hi because that seal was about five feet off your six following you around. A person could have mistaken it as your pet. I think he may have heard a rumor that you were the one to follow. Glad to hear you got into some fish.

At one point you were on the inside of Gabe and I when some of the bigger rollers were coming through. I was thinking to myself, I hope they don't start to break early, but you looked calm and not bothered. Gabe and I took that as our cue to move out of that area. Still learning so I wanted to remain safe and dry. I got lucky with that ling and was extremely excited as I had been dreaming about that moment for some time now.

We saw Mooch driving around in the man van checking things out. Unfortunately he didn't see us waving at him and probably headed to work

Hey Ray - sorry I missed ya. I saw your truck but did not see an NCKA sticker on it so I drove away and headed to work. (we need to get you a sticker) Anyway, I'm glad you had an awesome first experience at HMB  :headbang: . HMB was the first place I ocean-fished from my kayak AND also caught my very first ling....that was nearly 10 years ago  :smt118 It's also the place where I first hooked up with Papa Bill (NCKA President  :salut:) and NCKA was born a few months later  :kick

Anyway, this place has given me many many great memories - hope to meet you and the many more cool cats at NCKA that I have yet to meet :smt002

I have never really liked putting stickers on my vehicles, but if I was to reconsider this, it would definitely be a NCKA sticker. I do however have NCKA stickers on the yaks and feel honored to be part of this great group of people. Besides, the truck is my wife's and don't know how she would feel if she came out one morning and saw a big sticker plastered to the window.  :smt044 I do subscribe to the notion that it is sometimes better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission.

Hopefully we can meet up sometime out there and you could show us how to really catch some fish.

Take Care,
Ray

That is so cool Ray. Nice lingcod on your first ocean trip. I went all year last year
not catching any ling. My first ever was at Shelter Cove last month but then
again, every body that showed up at SC caught a ling or two.

Keo,

I have the prowler 15, not the T15, but it handles great. I have had it in rough water up here in the Delta and it slices through the chop with no problem. I do not have enough experience with it out on the ocean, so I can't give you a valid opinion here.
