Met another diver from the NCKA board down at the parking lot by the South Cove just before 9:00. I'd have been there earlier, but didn't realize there was a short term parking lot down there for boat launching.

We quickly made it out to the point in between the coves, first in about 25-30 feet of water, then moved in towards shore later one. We moved, as with the viz being what it was - maybe 6-8 feet, diving the deeper water just wasn't all that great.

Anyway, I managed a limit of 7.5-8.5" abs. Not all that good, size wise, other than two of them were quite deep. I wasn't out for trophies though. I Picked up an urchin for uni as well. By the time I was done grabbing, so was the other diver. A combination of poor viz and surgy water was doing a number on his inner ear. As far as fish go, all we saw were fry.

I swam back to the boat to get ready to go, and realized that my paddle was gone. Not that big of a deal to make it back to shore, I just came in paddleboard style.  But losing that paddle hurt.

If anyone manages to salvage a Werner paddle with a black shaft and white blades at the Fort, there's a reward. I've got other info that will identify the paddle as mine.

I was able to boogie home at 12:30, but still got caught up in traffic nastiness. Next time, I'm just going to stay off of the freeways on Friday afternoon. I'll probably get home at the same time, but the drive will be more scenic, and won't have to deal with all that stop and go from Cordelia through Roseville.

Regards,
Scott

I went out yesterday afternoon and walked up and down the rocks and didn't see it anywhere.
Everybody dies, not everybody lives. What did you do today?

I've been essentially just lurking on SB for at least a couple years now. I think the Fort Ross report was my second or third post there?

I mostly wanted to let divers know that if you were outside the "mud line", then viz, while not great, wasn't quite the nastiness that had been reported. Heck, I talked to a couple guys at the Reef Campground that were saying it was "arm-length".

Yep, the first ab I picked up was the smallest. I chalked it up to being the first snail for the season for me. The second and third abs, while not having shells that were all that much longer, were much, much deeper.
