well made a quick trip to russian gulch this morning, was on the water at 745 and off at 1030. had to get back to do some chores around the house. again it was flat as could be on the mendo caost, but today was a little cloudy and got a little rain on the drive out. paddled out and got a nice 17.25 in verm on my first drop :smt001 and hooked up a 14 in copper on the third drop, mission achieved, dinner. paddled around for a while longer and missed three short bites, one of which took the twin tails off the plastic i was dropping, then i heard it, that unmistakeable blow of snot from a big hairy furball. :smt011 again they were following me but today these were two big boys and they were a little aggresive. pulled the fish in the boat as they circled and dove, one went flying under me creating a giant bubble zone like in a hot tub and then , BAM, the other one hits the yak from below and circles again, so decided thats that and paddled back and headed home. well looking foward to the opening of sonoma coast this weekend so i can cut the drive time in half, cameron

Cool report and pics.  Don't take any crap from those furbags - whack it if it gets too close to you and your boat.

Beautiful fish from a beautiful spot. Nice work.

Abking, is it really a good idea to whack 'em? (We're talking sea lions, right?) Is it legal?

the number on it is penn 155. i am new to this type of fishing after spendeing most of my fishing life(30 years) flyfishing, my uncle passed on two rods to me when he found out i was coming to the dark side, hahaha, also gave me a penn 930 levelwind and two pacificstix fenglass rods to match the reels

.thought about hitting them but they had me out numbered, and does the MMA count when you feel threatened?
where is that?
russian gulch state park is about two miles north of the town of mendocino

Nice verm! I agree with Abking, don't take crap from seals. I shout "Hey seal!" and slap my paddle at them along with the predator stare. They usually run like scared kittens.

...The onlyest problem is that last week we visited Fisk Mill Cove by boat and the outside point was absolutely covered with sealions.  We've never seen so many in that cove before and, boy, you couldn't breathe the air for the stench they put up.

You can tell these badboys are just waiting to harrass fishermen and divers for easy meals.

Nice report, bwodun. I really like that first pic, that place looks beautiful. Nice catches... in minimal time it sounds like, too. I will crack a sealion if it doesn't heed verbal warnings, especially if it's endangering my safety. If that's against the law then they can throw me in jail.
