So I wanna give 'hunting' a try (perch and rockies). I figure a polespear is a good place to start. Any recommendations on length, material, tips, etc.

thx guys.

I would consider making your own if I were you............Easy to do and it is never a bad thing to earn something new.  You can get almost everything you need at a full service hardware store....Except maybe the tubing for the bands and the lead for weight and to hold the tines in place.

I do all kinds of ghetto repairs at work, so I get lazy about my own stuff :smt003

I bought a 6 foot pole with paralyzer tip at a dive shop.  As I have only used it twice, my opinion is worthless, but for what its worth :smt044 it seems fine.

useless for a specific reason or just in general? Did you switch to something else?

Hurry up and get your gear so we can dive together. I'm in SoCal but I'll be diving up there as soon as I get back

I will bring mine to Albion so you can try it. I bought it. Some things are just too inexpesive to screw around making.

my opinion=worthless :smt004

I managed to spear perch and small to medium rockfish so far.

Sorry for the confusion, I have been hanging around too many politicians and attending too many government meetings.  Teach you to speak strangely.

EWB, found a really nice thread on a homebuilt polespear. Doesn't look perfect but for $25 plus spear tip it looks like a good one to try.

I sold my extras but I have a backup belt you can borrow when we dive. Get a Ray Odor pole spear and you are set.
