We know little about what is in the depths of the Monterey Canyon. I saw a picture of a 'vampire' squid from one of the deep submarine trips. It had hooks instead of suction cups on its tentacles. http://www.smithsonianmag.si.edu/smithsonian/issues96/may96/vampire_jpg.html. Good thing they are only 6 inches long and explode when brought up to our depth. However, these are just the ones we know about...and we know little about the inhabitants of the deeps.  We do know Sperm Whales, nasty enough, go deep and eat Giant Squid or be eaten perhaps. :smt009
