I fish there quite a bit.  Per the messages above, there are two launch points.  The first is off the sand beach by the light house.  So long as the swell is NW and below chest high, you can make it out without fighting a crashing wave, even at low tide.  The other launch is about 1/4 mile South, off the very rutty dirt path that branches off highway 1.  There is a mild rip that keeps the break down, though you will get wet on anything above waste high.

Fishing can be very good there - key is to use big bait.  We fish 7" swim bait and catch a decent amount of ling in season.  I've also caught halibut there.  Good sized black and some vermillion rockfish as well.

I don't think Pigeon Point is any sharkier than anywhere else in that area, including Bean.  That being said, it is the location of one of the few fatal attacks on the coast.  This time of year my personal view is you are OK.  However, I used to surf Ano in the summer, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

I am potentially going to Pigeon Point this Saturday - I'll post a hookup tomorrow if I do.  This, by the way, is my first post to this board.  I figure I've enjoyed it enough that I should give some back.
