Mr. Safety Guru:

I got to you by stating that I like my decision to run with a waterproof VHF in a waterproof bag, didn't I!  I noted your comment too about ease of use, and I've found my Aquapac to be very easy as far as the channel buttons and the microphone button, and only a little bit of a pain to turn on/off, squelch, and volume control.  Overall I'm very very pleased with it - I bought it because I knew I'd destroy a "waterproof" appliance in no time by not rinsing it well enough or abusing it too hard...  Now I have double-protection, and I'm confident that it's the best thing for me and my VHF.  It also floats the VHF.

You should be able to score one of these for around $20-25.  I think they advertised "as used by the Navy Seals!"

I use the small one for my cell phone, wallet and keys. I can press the buttons (touch screen phone) and talk right through the bag. Not sure how the VHF models work. I also like it b/c you can trap air inside and it will float. Just another product to look at

Do yakkers use these dry bags with radios that are designed to be submersible for extra protection/floatation/peace-of-mind?

Ironically the VHF handhelds marketed as "submersible" may survive submersion but sometimes do not funtion properly right after submersion. Unfortunately this is when you need it to function since you are in the water. After some research, I found out that even the Navy Seals use dry bags on their VHF devices. Anyway, I ordered Abking's Aquapack recommendation because Abking and  the Seals use it.
