Was looking at the calender for a day or 2 of playing in waves.
its unfortunately the closest opportunity I have to give a T160 the hydrology exam and get a little more time in the Kaos.
(please dont feel bad for me. the schedule is overloaded with time on the water.)
hoping for mellow but still challenging conditions to work on some skills.
company is welcome

That is a beautiful break...but aren't waves like that hard ride....curling everywhere at once?

That wave is a straight up "square" shaped closeout :smt044. Ive broken boards and needed stitches from waves like that! Riding a wave like that on a t160 would be a thorough hydrology exam indeed :smt003. It will be interesting to see how the "arrow" punches in and out throe a shore break like that.....

Doran is closeout city. It stands up and you charge down the face hoping you dont take it on the head.
So much fun! not really a bottom turn kind of place but a sling shot sleigh ride that is a blast. It can get gruesome big out there but most of the time its a great place to practice charging out through reasonable waves and getting a fun ride back in. among the greatest of rides were tandem on big days.
never again  nuff said.
There are other "better" waves but Doran is where I learned when I moved to Sonoma county and there were so many good times there, it makes me smile just writing about it.

I tried to ride a wave on a T160dh at Doran and recieved a smackdown but I did not have leg straps on and got blasted off the boat.
I was able to catch some small waves in a T140 (not at Doran) but it was everything I had to hold my line and keep it from pearling.
Could be fun to watch.
The 160DH pierces waves like a sword and you have to take the full frontal, we will see how the new design handles it. It is definately a different creature than earlier 160s, that had little in common with the 140, where this160 is shaped like a 140 stretched.

If you paddle in hydrolics youre going to have that maytag experience, its just part of the game.
On good days Doran is the place to see what it feels like without needing therapy or getting the shakes the next time you pick up the paddle.
I still plan on returning to Caspar and Big river for better kayak waves but it doesnt look like ill have a chance to get back up there until after Baja.
