I got a hall pass for a few hours this morning before bbq festivities started and headed down to the port of Sacramento. A great decision ... no big boats ... calm water ... a little bit of a breeze to set up a drift. To top it off, caught my first striper off the yak! Didn't make the cutoff by several inches but it woulda gone back anyway. Caught a couple of smallish largemouth as well as getting a couple of blowups on a popper ... best day in a while :)

Sounds like a great prelude to a special day in the United States. Fish on!

Right on! What were you using for the striper's bait, top water, divers?

Keep an eye out for the stripers I had one go nuts in my lap the other day when I was  taking the hook out... needless to say it was blood for blood. I ended up with a couple puncture wounds in the hand and one on the leg.  :smt012

The stripers hit shad raps ... one while trolling from one spot to another .. the other casting parallel to shore about 20 feed out. I got lucky on the release ... they both spit it out as I was scrounging for the net :)

The Big Dog is just waiting for you...whats that saying? "give it to Mikey, he'll try anything" coming from another, another Michael...well almost anything

Was fishing the American by Ansel using sardine wraps few yrs ago...guys were hooking some chunker stripers...one guy caught a 2lb shad, put a big hook in its mouth and sent it back out...Bam 25# and same day a 30# same bait...I only saw pics of these fish...

Was seeing quite a few yaks on the water but most were just out enjoying the ride...didn't see any really fishing it...water was fairly quick there...

Thanks for the report...

Mike....
