Just wondering if any of you know of a place where I can go and toss a throw net to get some shiners or smelts for live bait.  I've always want to make my own bait but don't know where to start.  I live in San Leandro (Eastbay) and I was going to go down to the San Leandro Marina and check out the area. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

If you have a crawdad trap tie it up under a boat dock with a little bait in it, It is usally good for a dozen or so shiners. Tie it out of site so the thiefs won't find it. If you keep it on the bottom you have a good chance of  getting a few bullheads as well. Try a sabiki rig for smelt around the docks as well.
