Since Mike told us that they were on sale this week, I've been considering getting one based on the info and reviews I've seen as I've never tried one out. Between REI gift cards (Xmas) and member dividend it wouldn't cost me all that much.

I did promise myself a few new yak items this year and a new paddle was on the list, Seems like for all around SOT paddling the Camano is rated very high.

I currently use a base model Harmony Adventure or a Wave (model?) and due to my lack of muscle tone, (yes my fault) my arms and shoulders get tired fast. I paddle a Cobra Marauder.

Yes increasing muscle tone would be best, but besides that,,,,,,

any opinions on that paddle would be appreciated,

Dale L

I've been using that paddle (fiberglass) for about a year and a half now and I like it a lot. Granted I don't exclusively paddle but when I do I like the blade shape, weight, and especially the ferrule. It's really well made and you can fine tune the feather. I like the fiberglass for it's flex. It gives a snap at the end of each paddle stroke.

I use a Werner Kalliste in a 240 for paddling and it is great. My girlfriend has a 230 Camano and it is nearly as light as my paddle and much more rugged. Great paddle... you can't go wrong in my opinion.

Thanks, for the feedback,

I bought the Camano, fiberglass blades, carbon shaft, haven't got it wet yet,,,,I cross checked the weight and found it to be even lighter than some of the higher end paddles,

with my style or lack thereof, I should soon be testing it's ruggedness too.

I've been using the Werner Camano for about two years. GREAT PADDLE, I paid about $245 for mine. If you can get a good deal on one grab it. Very light weight and sturdy. IMO One of the better paddles out there.

Good Luck

I bnought a 240 werner camano because I needed a longer paddle for the t-15 I bought. I am very satisfied with its durability so far and the weight factor. It gets alittle sticky when trying to separate the halves though.

Ive also been pleased with Werner paddles. Im currently using the 240 bent shaft Corryvrecken and the 194 bent shaft Sherpa.
The 240 is a 2 piece and after about 2 years of hard use the locking mechanism for adjustable feathering broke and I was forced to make this paddle a 1 piece. Otherwise its been great.

Ill be curious to know if you have any trouble with bracing after downsizing your blade or if your stern rudder feels less effective?
Hope you enjoy the new paddle.

I've always enjoyed Werner products. As for the ruggedness, my experience working with a big outfitter showed they hold up better than expected, even in the hands of renters who were predictably harsh on equipment (using them as shovels, tarp poles, etc).
One of the paddles I still use today is a two piece fiberglass werner camano that is probably 12 years old. It's an ex-rental with a lot of paddling on it. It's very slightly loose at the ferrule now, but nothing a touch of resin wouldn't fix.

Hydro,

Not laughing at you,

Just a little sheepish about my own abilities, I think I post more than I paddle, I consider myself an experienced beginner, a real calm water paddler, bracing is something I've never done, (not sure if I could).  I do plan to remedy that with some surf zone lessons soon though, I'll probably be using the Wave paddle for that.  I paddle a marauder without a rudder.

I did get out with the new paddle today but the day got cut short when my yak filled with water, (story in another post).

I did really like it for the short time I got to use it, very light, I didn't feel any flutter, it did seem to have a little less thrust per stroke, but as often as I paddle these days that could have been my imagination.. Overall on a long day I think I'll love it.

Im planning multiple days next month in the surf and ill post hook ups.
Definately take a class and know you are always welcome to join us.
Im no pro, but I can share the lessons that were passed down to me from my mentors and
hopefully help build some confidence in your paddling skills.
Like most things, its subtle tricks and concepts that can make a world of difference.
Ive taught multiple people how to roll and I believe its more of a mind puzzle than a athletic manuever.
After you figure out the puzzles of paddling its more about muscle memory and adapting those skills to situations.
oh yeah, unfortunately you have to practice ALOT. But if it prevents you from having a soul jarring situation, its all worth it.
see you on the water
