If you're in the Fort Bragg area and have a pickup, I have access to all the Alder you could ever want.  Green, take it away.  Or throw it in your trunk.

When I smoke,  I just clean up my chop saw real nice and cut thin slices of alder.  I throw the slices and, even better, the saw dust in the smoker.  Works great.  Red Alder is great smoking wood.
