I am debating whether to take I-5 to 20 and cut over by clear lake or head over to 101 and drive up. What is 20 like?

Brian,

Are you going to "Elk" this weekend?  If so, we'll miss you in Ukiah for the Striper Tournament.

From your direction choices however it sounds like you have the right place in mind, just not the town's name.

Assuming you mean Ukiah, I'd say the choice of 101 vs 20 has a lot to do with when you're heading up.

If you're planning on heading up during rush hour 101 can be a pain and you might have better luck with 5 to 20.

BTW, the difference between the two routes (according to MapQuest) is 11 miles and about 15 mins with 101 being the shorter.

If you enjoy sitting in Friday traffic take 101.  :smt011
Most of 20 is 55mph few hills and a little traffic along Clear lake more miles but less stress. :smt020
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

Joel busted me there. I was dreaming of that wild fishing at Elk. Looking for a repeat at Mendo.

I am going to be leaving a 4:00 on friday so 20 seems like the way for me =).

Hey, no fare you edited your post.  Now my witty reply looks way off base.

20 along Clear Lake is medium twisty.  Way less chance for massive traffic on 20.  101 north on a Friday can be UGLY from Novato, Petaluma, and SR...yuk.

I can make it to my sisters in Elk Grove in just under 3 hours, so that should give you an idea on the drive.
