I really like Necky boats--my first fishing kayak was a Necky Dolphin--I still have have it. The Chatham is definitely a sleek and beautiful sea kayak and is made for open water.  I paddled one at a Bay Area Paddlefest a few years ago before I bought my NDK Romany.  The Chatham is a top-notch sea kayak--the 16-footer I paddled was plastic. It is definitely not a beginner boat--kind like a spirited race horse--it needs an experienced paddler to make it really shine. It was a toss up between the Necky Chatham, the NDK Romany, and the Valley Canoe Avocet--but I went for a classic British fiberglas sea kayak.
