Got there around 9 am at Shadow Cliffs.  On the water by 9:30.  3 guys in a boat were at the dock with limits of trout.  Mainly, they had Thunder Trout.  I got out near the middle in 30 ft.of water.  I was casting out my first rod and it was going off as the green power bait hit the bottom.  Thunder Trout around 18".

I had 3 doubles and finished up within 90 mins.  Got one Rainbow 13" and all others were Thunder Trout from 14" to 18".  I released 3 small Rainbows.  I think the Thunders do not fight as well as the Rainbows.  They make a few runs and then give up.  IMO.  The Thunders had nothing is their belly.

The Thunder trout is a strain of rainbow bred by Mt. Lassen Fish Farms, it was supposed to be a tougher and meaner fish, but from the eports I have read, they aren't any better, lol. They are a little oranger/yellower in color compared to other rainbows.

What I have been interested in are the lightening trout that are a custom strain as well. Bright orange trout. Here is a pic I pulled off of Yahoo images of a lightening trout

How's it going Ken? Good to see that you're still making out every now and again. Sounds like another solid day.

On the east coast those are called palomino trout and are hatchery bred. When I was a little kid, they would throw them in the local derby ponds and if you caught one, you got a silver dollar (circa 1976 as I still have on around somewhere....) I think (not sure) that they are kinda like an albino rainbow trout. In the fall/winter if a stocked one makes it that far, they get a nice pink band down the side for spawning. Looks like nail polish. Like I said, try googling palomino trout.

Tight lines.

True story. A guy was fishing with his son at San Pablo res. he hooked into one of these thunder or palomino trout and let his son land it. He had never seen one of these trout before. so when it bled on his son he told the park rangers and the staff that he was going to sue them for infecting his son with some type of radio active trout disease :smt044 good times
