Just saw a trailer about flyfishing coastal rivers for salmon and steelhead.  It looks really good.  Anyone see it?

I read from another forum that its a documentary of the old school flyfishermen and their cliques and rivalries as they fished the Russian, Eel, Smith, and other coastal rivers. It also goes into detail on the decline of those fisheries.

There's a trailer at www.riversofalostcoast.com

I saw that a few months back and it definitely captured my interest.  Looks like it'll be available to the public by this summer.

I'm considering the idea of making a similar video about abalone trophy hunting.

Cool trailer!  I'm new to fly fishing and looking forward to watch this movie...

That should be a great movie if it tells just a few of the stories about those guys.
I remember listening to stories from and about those pioneers at the Russian river flyfishers meetings and at Grant Kings Western Angler 30years ago.
Just the ones about Bill Schaadt would be worth the price of admission.

Already got my tickets to go see it this weekend. It's playing in Santa Rosa at the Rialto Cinema the 27th & 28th. Two showings a day. I have fished with a lot of the guys that are in that movie, and listened to the stories of those good ol' days many times in the "line ups". Fished with Bill Schaadt many times on the coastals. Can't wait to see it. I just met Russ Chatham a few weeks ago. I'm sure he'll be there also. Should be great! A true history of our coastals. Makes you sad to think what they have been reduced to now... :smt011

You know about "The Hunt for Red Treasure"?

I've heard that title but not seen the movie.  I live in a vacuum...  (duh on my part!)

I guess I'd better do some leg work...

I saw it last week at the Berkeley Rialto. I'm a Russell Chatham groupie wannabe (I think I have all his books, including "Striped Bass on the Fly"), soooo, for what it's worth, I thought the movie was awesome.

The stories of abundance in the early years compared with what we have today made me want to weep. Tales of seeing a 3'-tall wave coming upstream at you as an unimaginably huge school of fish moves up, seeing and fishing to aggregations in the thousands.

In the film Frank Bertaina said something like how today all the serious anglers/writers try to travel to the next secret world class fishing spot; back then they (his generation) didn't realize that they had world class fishing in their backyards and didn't take the time to appreciate and protect it.

That echoes - big time.
