So I just bought my first kayak (trident 15) and would like to mount some rod holders.  I bought two and was thinking about putting them behind the seat on each side.  I was also considering putting one in the front but I haven't seen too many set up that way so thought I would get some input.

Welcome J!  Hey check out the threads under the Rigged Kayaks, Kayak Rigging Tips and Kayak Manufacturers (Ocean Kayak) forums.  There are a number of recent posts on rigging tridents with rod holders (flush mounts, scottys, RAMs) and other gear. That'll get you started on some ideas for options and placement. Good luck!

If it doesn't already have two (one on each side) flushmount holders behind the seat I would do that. Good for storage and trolling. As for the ones in front I would paddle it once or twice. I have made the mistake of mounting some only to regret the placement later on.

Oh and welcome!

many guys put rod holders in front of them where the kayak starts to rise in between your legs.  The only problem with this is if you plan on mounting a downrigger, it will be a pain in the a** to get to.  What i did was put one on each side of me on the elevated flat part. (ill try and post pics)  but you have to make sure they are far enough forward so it doesn't get in the way of paddling.  Inside the kayak i bolted them to a large piece of metal to distribute any stress applied on the kayak
Everybody should have the opportunity to fish

To be honest.  If you're not afraid of drilling on the side walls of your yak, this is the only strongest way and best rod holder design (two pivot points) I imagine thus far and my next rod setup.
