Van Damme Thursday

Left Eureka at 0600 to dive the low at VD, what a beautiful dive, tons of vis, nice abs, and we broke in the new tarpon 120. We shot the tunnel on the surge, what a blast! Got a little raw underwater video before the battery went t.u. here it is...

Nice video! What's the clicking noise?

Urchin City. The last time I dove Van Damme was1987. I have vowed never to return to the land of small abalone and Urchin City. Nice report though and the camera worked great. I have a new canon elph with a housing and you have convinced me that I need to get it on. Cool. Thanks

That clicking is the sound abalone make when approached by predatory animals. it is a defense mechanism that confuses the predator. it could be the cameraman forgot his gloves and that is the sound of his teeth chattering.

The camera is a pentax optio W-60. The annoying clicking noise is the auto focus. I was not able to turn it off due to the fact the make the buttons to small and my fingers were to damm cold.

The urchins are prolific the area we dove, is that true for the middle and the south?

I liked your description of the batteries dying:  "T.U."  Left up to our own raunchy imaginations.  It didn't take me but a second!     That's almost as good as D.I.T.D. for someone who's passed out faced down or in some similar state.
