Its the mako 5mm open cell wetsuit.  I was wondering if anyone here had used this wetsuit before and what they thought.

I just bought a Picasso 7mm open cell suit and it is way ahead of my 7mm regular suit. It's lighter, stretchier, and way warmer. Freediveshop in Sac sells them and has them on sale. I was in 48 degree water for two hours twice last week and never even got unwarm much less cold. The built in hood keeps water from going down your back. If your going up to mendocino you would probably be better off with a 7mm.

I was at Wallins on Saturday and they had some suits on sale. Might be worth checking out if you are close by.

I was just wondering because the guy I was diving with this last weekend was wearing a 5/4/3 excel surfing wetsuit 1 piece with hoodie and he didn't get cold in the hour we were out there.

He's a big guy but cold water is cold water right?  I'm just wondering if some people have more tolerance and could get away with a lighter suit or if the claims they make about the mako 5mm suit are true?  It said they compare that suit to a 7mm because of the open cell constuction.

A good fitting 5mm open cell suit is as warm as a 7mm regular scuba suit... but I'm a wuss and wouldn't even dive here in a regular 7mm suit.  For quick ab dives with the occassional fish, it'll be fine.

I use a 7mm open cell suit for all my diving in norcal & can last 7-8hours.  Good fit & decent booties/gloves are important.

JTF:
That's exactly the suit I use with a 2 mm shorty underneath.  When I dove with Merv last friday (amphibian), and he had his new 7mm Picasso, I got cold way before he did.  It convinced me that I need to get one of those.

I was diving deeper than those guys, so that was part of the reason, but still they were happily chasing fish around while I was shivering on the beach.  My suit is 3 seasons old, so that may be also why it's not working so well.

It sure sucks when you have to get out of the water because you're cold rather than you're tired of diving.

This is what I was hoping to hear.  Only thing I have to do now is use my regular 7mm a few more times and try to stay in the water longer.  Last saturday my ankles and feet got sore quick.  I was using old jet pros.  I'm not sure if I can gauge how I feel in my gear yet.  Still need some more time in the water.

Your a bad ass.  Right now my picasso 7mm has so many holes that I can only last 3.5 hrs in 47 degree water before I get too cold that I can't dive.  It is time for me to get a new suit and gloves.
