The price screams OUCH!!

I use regular straps and this if I'm going to be away from the rig.  I then purchased a pretty heavy Masterlock from HomeDepot.

I'm with Dilbeck on this one,
Use the straps you already have than lock them down with a good lock.
Try theese from Master only $29.99 avail. at Fisherman's Warehouse Fresno

Stainless steel cables running along the outside edges of the tubular webbing prevent the straps from being slashed
Those cables have to be very thin to run inside the webbing, so it would still be pretty easy to cut.

I use the same exact cable lock as "hopper" above. And run it through the scupper holes just like that. Same yellow O.K., too... Wait, is that my boat???  :pirat:

It's called a "Python" lock by Master http://www.masterlock.com/promos/python/8413python_lock.shtml
I got mine at Home Despot but it was not any cheaper than $29.99, so you'd be better off supporting Fisherman's Warehouse & getting it there.

I use a similar set-up as yakhopper and pisciform...in fact, I used the exact same lock (Master Python) until last summer when we drove to the Truckee area for some fishing.  That's when I realized that I'd left the frikkin keys to the Python at home in Sunnyvale... :smt013  So the lesson here is, don't forget your keys.  That, and an $80 pair of monster cable cutters will slice through that Python lock in about 4 seconds.  I still use a similar setup, only with a Brinks cable lock that's a little thicker in diameter.  One of these days I'm going to have my brother-in-law help me weld together a contraption that's been floating around in my head for 7-8 months now that will allow me to use a cut-proof chain lock on the yak.  But first priority is...fishing!  17 days left!!!  :smt038

I always keep one key on my car-keychain .  The other is hidden inside the kayak. :smt023

A thief that wants something will get it.  I'm just trying to keep an honest man honest.

I hear ya, Michael.  If someone wants it bad enough they'll get it.  :smt013

I also keep the key to my cable lock on my keychain.  Unfortunately, that was a family trip so we'd taken our CR-V, not my Toyota PU (aka, Pete's paintball/yaking/camping/fishing-mobile).  Some dumbass (me) forgot to transfer the kayak key to the CR-V keychain.  The price of that lesson was an hour-long round-trip trek from the lake to Truckee, and $80 spent on cable cutters.  Not to mention the cost of the now-useless Python lock, and having to buy a replacement.

I like your idea of a second hidden key though...  :smt004

I have the same sort of thing myself, and if I remember it was about 18$ for the cable and I splurged on a 8$ lock for it.  Was great for my Hobie, through the drive well opening, but cant fit the ends through my scuppers on the Trident.  I put it on through the handles but know they can be cut in a second.  Hopefully it wont get stolen in the middle of the night.

If these straps were cheaper, I'd consider it, but have 3 sets of straps already!
