I didn't say you shouldn't take any safety gear but I fished happily for probably 30 years without any of it

If you look at what people recommend it can get pretty ridiculous  A lot of people carry more gear than the average power boat, no joke

Well I'm a big fan of the better safe than sorry so more is better in my book. I'm a little nervous on te wter due to a near drowning experience when I was a kid so I'll err on the having too much safety equipment side.
I think the Hobie will do just fime with the weight, my girlfriend and I are avid cyclists so pedaling the boat is no problem.
