What started as a phone call from Mooch about two weeks ago has turned into our first ever fund raiser for "Operation: Mom" (Castro Valley). Operation:Mom sends care packages to our Troops in the Middle East.
OM had enough funds to send out 500 packages, until recently, they could only afford to send our Troops 175 packages.
There it was, staring us in the face, we decided to try to help in this cause.

We held our Fish-N-Chill II last weekend at Del Valle in Livermore.  Our goal for the weekend was 50 participants, we had a great turnout of 40.  We shared our idea of a fund raiser with the group, making future Fish-N-Chill's a way of giving back to our troops through Operation: Mom. We are grateful to the groups enthusiasm and positive response to this idea.

To make things fun, Friday night we handed out "Combo Rods" which included the following characters Batman, Spider Man and much in demand Barbie.  Netpicker 2000 donated different lures for the cast and hit target challenge, a reel kick.   :fish4  Our Saturday agenda, use your "combo reel/rod" to catch the heaviest fish, everyone pitched in $5 a person, we had a pot total of $105.00.  The rules of the day, they had to use the stock "combo rod/reel" with the 6 lb. line which was included with the reel, check in time of 1:00 pm. Mike Chin checked in with the winning trout, 1 lb. 10 oz.; Mike immediately donated his winnings to "Operation: Mom" which humbled us all, Thanks Mike for setting the bar.

The rain did not hinder the camaraderie of our NCKA members, a weekend  enjoying good friends, great food and a new fishing derby.  (Due to technical difficulties, pictures will be posted in the near future)  Sincere Thanks from the Sacramento Family  :love7:

I whine about not getting to fish as much as I used to, but Frank's talk to the group got me thinking about sacrifices others make every day so that I can get out at all. I did tell Elisabeth that I had unilaterally donated what would have been funding for a night out for the two of us, she was totally supportive, and wants to thank NCKA for making it possible.

Don't you mean Art Frank? :smt044

Thanks once again Frank for putting on such a killer event!  I had more fun this last weekend than I have ever while camping (or surviving)!  The mini-pole tourney was a big hit!  Thanks to EVERYONE for making it such a great weekend to remember!

That's cool, Frank. Definitely in the NCKA spirit that I've experienced since finding this group.
Too bad I missed the challenge, but I cherish my keepsake Barbie pole!  :smt007

Don't forget that Mike, a member of team Barbie, brought home the winning fish. So does that mean that blonds really do have more fun?
