Not sure if I've posted this before, but here goes:

Is there a good and not-too-expensive all-purpose portable GPS unit that can be used on a kayak to set way-points as well as give street directions for use in a car?
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

You are looking at two totally different environments. So I would argue getting one that can handle the harsh marine environment. I have this one and have been happy with it so far. Oh and you can find it way cheaper. I think I got mine for $160 from Amazon. Try and get one that connect to you computer (usually via a USB cable). It makes the data entry way faster.

Andrew I was thinking along the same lines and Lowrance and Magellan both make one but both have some big draw backs. I have seen both on close out prices so maybe they are upgrading. here is a comparsion. http://www.greatlakes4x4.com/showthread.php?t=71447
A friend of mine has the Lowrance he paid $149 its pretty nice but the battery only last about 2 hours.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.
