Seems like a flat ocean is a mid-week phenomenon

You are going to miss the flat ocean by a day. Friday is 4 to 6 ft with 20 mile an hour winds and its only gets worst from there.

Tommorrow is the day to go..2ft seas.

O.K, so who's going out tomorrow ? I'm available out of the Santa Rosa area, kayak or shore. Experienced free diver/spear fisherman. Any body want to hit it, I just have to drop the daughter off at school around 8:15 am in Petaluma and I'm free.

Yeah, spending the day in the water TODAY was tough, forecast of 2 ft swell turned out to be off by about 50%, the surf couldn't have been more than 12 inches (seriously),,,,,,,post later by my dive partner.

Hey guys. I'll be out there tommorow after stopping by bbprodive to pick up my gun which was having some trigger mech issues.  Normally dive from my board, but would consider taking the yak if somebody wants to hook up and do that.  Will be departing from fairfield in the a.m(thursday).

Well i just got back from my first yak dive. Launched out of Casper and went around the point looking for fishy areas.
Paddling my drifter was easy for the 3/4 mile trip to my first stop. Hung clips over the side for a speargun and to clip my polespear on when i saw that big ling and wanted the gun. The clips had too long a cord and got all tangled up together but oh well live and learn.
I was suprised by the lack of fish, it looked real fishy, but abs where everywhere. I looked like the old days before DFG closed the season south of the Gate. After i gave up on looking for fish i picked my three abs all around 8.5 to 8.75. I could have got a bunch of rock crabs but we just finished up some dugies from my last dive.
And i didnt dump the yak!!!! got in and out ok and got back on the beach upright!!!
I am going to have to try fishing off of it, its good ling fishing about a mile out from casper beach.

Funny thing Ocean 314, I had the same type of day. At a spot that usually holds some fish I saw only one, vis was good but it was the bottom of the low tide so I am guessing that had something to do with the lack of fish. 3 abs but no fish, dove Seal Rock and Bodega Head, vis was just O.K at the Head but allot better at Seal Rock, 10'-15' easy. Water temp was about 47/48, slight south wind but pretty calm seas, swell from the west and the south. Good first dive of the season.

Not much fishes out there for me either.  Got in at S. Gerstle cove around 2 with nice calm conditions from the top view.  Visibility was a fairly good 10-15 in the shallow but got cloudy and milky mixed out deeper.  Had epic experience day there in the past w/ really awesome vis and abundance of fishes.  Lings, cabs, blues, lings chasing blues, and little swarms of baitfish.

So.. pretty much found the same for me on thur w/ a limit of of thick n fat abs but not much in the fish arena.  Did get one small black and yellow to take home for dinner.

One cool experience that did come out of it though... as I was head down in a surgey area peeking under some rocks,  I got somersaulted.  It was a nice gentle head over heels in slow motion. :smt043 woohoo!

Will try to post some pics I took. Not the best pics, as I found it difficult managing the camera in the water and conditions weren't that great in the water.

Friday was a little different conditions late in the afternoon.  But felt good on the hike back w/ gentle rains as things calmed down.  Had to get in the water to try out the new gun.  Last pic are aqua socks picked up from west marine for like 6 bucks on sale. Very sticky sole that's fairly thick and worked well climbing over the rocks.  I got blown over and had to hike back a little.
