The drawing looks like the GPS migration route readout of a GWS's in and out of Monterey Bay.

Without a wetsuit the water here is simply too cold.
Without a wetsuit and just a legally required PFD ?

PFD means Properly Freezing to Death...
Even a light suit or a shorty will double or triple the time needed to get to shore.

We have sadly had this discussion 3X in the past 3-4 weeks.

I always carry extra gear on the Yak as well as dressing in layers, you can always remove stuff, but out there without any gear is stupid.

They died doing what they liked.  There are worse things in the world.  MY father in law is 80, has been retired for 30 years, and sits in front of the TV all day - a bitter but healthy man.  I choose their lives over his.

I almost drowned in a really big outside set when surfing last weekend. So, I'm not going to get all judgmental about the decisions those guys made.

Haiku of support:

Abandoning pride

to decrease chances of death

kills the heart early.

counterpoint Haiku:

A man should face his

inability to change

before proceeding.

and finally...

Seeing tragedy,

passions swell about lessons

we should learn ourselves.

haiku to get somewhere between being born and kicking the bucket

go
for
the gusto

I think we need to start a haiku corner
at least til the salmon get back from the edge of oblivion

You've gotta at least follow the rules!   :smt002

Go - for what you ask?

I say go for the gusto.

Gusto is life blood.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.
