A fellow co-worker knew these 2 local well-experienced canoeist/kayaker who had an accident in Tomales Bay.  They are known to own wetsuits/drysuits but this time they went out with only a pfd, no marine radio.  In less than 30 minutes, one of the 2 succumbed to hypothermia and died.  Here is the historical wind pattern in Tomales Bay that was recorded by iWindsurf.com wind sensor on 2/14/09....

Be careful out there.

Ron, did your co-worker give any explanation as to why they would go out into Tomales Bay - 1. in a canoe, 2. in a storm?
A lot of us are having trouble making any sense of this, even less so considering they were supposed to be well-experienced.

What a terrible waste of resources: 1) The human life, 2) the rescue personnel deployment and 3) in THAT spot. If someone is absolutely clueless about the ocean and does this it is tragic. For "well-experienced" people to do this is absurd.
