Going back to your first few posts and laughs at what a newbie we once were? Haha. I registered June 26th, 2007 and made my first post on June 27th, 2007. I didn't ever lurk. I started off in a 10 foot SIS Perception kayak with no storage hatches. Now when I see a 10 foot kayak I shake my head just imaging my 6'3" 250 pound body in one of them. Here is a few old pictures, what a leg cramp kayak!

I made my first post in the hook up section and my second/third one was a fishing report at Mildred Island. I hope I have been a good contributor to the board and continue to do so for years to come!

Let's see, I registered in early Jan 2005, made a couple posts in Feb 2005, and finally my first fishing report in March 2005.

Here's that first post again.. I'm pretty sure I had the first kayak-in camping fishing report.

After reading everybody else's reports I thought I should give one of my own.  I would have done it sooner, but I wasn't sure I could pull down photos from Ofoto or not.

Anyway, I went out to Lake Sonoma to do some kayak-in camping and fishing with some friends from work last weekend.  The weather was amazing and the fishing was pretty good.   Lake Sonoma is a fairly young resevoir (~22 yrs old) and they've left a lot of flooded trees standing in the upper reaches.

They (the Army Corp of Engineers) have many designated boat-in only campsites.  We all decided that the "Skunk Creek" campsites looked the fishest on the topomap, if only because it was the farthest (~3 mi) from the boat launch.  Here's a couple photos of the campsite.

The fishing was pretty good.  The bass have begun to move into the shallows and were hitting soft plastics on the surface.

I tend to practice catch-and-release fishing, but when it comes to camping my survivor instincts kick in so we kept enough to eat during the trip.

I think the four of us brought to the boat a total of 40+ largemouth bass and one crappie in two mornings and one evening of fishing.  Most of the bass were in the 14-15" range and we had a few in the 16-19" range, nothing huge but I was using my ultra-light and had a blast.

Oh, the first morning we got up early and on the water by 6am.  Fifteen minutes later I hear this rumbling noise and this line of about 15 bass boats  was slowly making its way towards me.  Luckily we were in a no-wake zone.  Anyway, I was fishing a nice point with structure and one boat pulls up beside me about 20 yds to my right and another 20 yds to my left.  Evidently there was a bass tourney that day and common courtesy isn't part of there clubs by-laws.

Well, originally we had a yahoo group under Elric after PFIC wouldn't let us post kayaking stuff, then we were a subcategory of another kayakfishing site kayak4fish, then that site went down for weeks and Bill built NCKA because we were going nuts from withdrawl.  ;)

More or less my first post here:on: December 10, 2004
"But on the 7th day it was ressurected, but lo, another savior had appeared white it was interned and stolen the apostles by oftering more local forums and expressive emoticons!

Kayak4fish is still the best general ca board, IMO.   I appreciate that their adds are inobtrusive, ect."

Okay, maybe it was down for a week, but it seemed like forever....  ;)  Does anyone have the posts from the yahoo group saved?

originally we had a yahoo group

Yup, I remember those days....back then, there was no such thing as a Kayak "Angler Model"  :smt002 ....Milk crates with built in pvc rod holders were the greatest modifications made.....no one even know what a flush mount rod holder was.....

Most the OG's gathered only once a year at the Kayak Connection Kayak Fishing event in SC. That's where I met Erik Kunz, Pro Spark, Allen Bushnell (SCallen), Brian G. and Sean (Piscean)....

This site has come a looooog way :smt045

Oh yeah, I remember the yahoo group. I joined it in the summer of 2004 but it was pretty dead by then.  Every one had pretty much moved over to the NorCal section of Kayak4Fish.com.  That forum was having server issues and it was tough being limited to one section of a forum so Bill stepped up and started NCKA.  I remember because everyone suddenly left the yahoo group and Kayak4Fish and it took me a couple weeks to find out where everyone went...no one told me  :smt009.

Registered July 18, 2005 at 10:45:45PM and made my very first post minutes later.
Talking about the Santa Cruz derby; a WHOPPING 17 people entered. I didn't even know NCKA existed until that day and I was already on my 3rd kayak, a Prowler 15.

It is funny how my very first post still holds true today.

I drove from Placerville, 45 miles east of Sacramento, to participate in the derby on Sunday the 17th.
As a group, the participants were some of the coolest people I have come across in a long time. I just wanted to thank everyone for a great time.
I was truly amazed at how friendly everyone was, on and off the water.
You all made it a memorable experience and one I will be doing again for sure.
