Cool, but why does the story always go like this...?

Ya, we were fishing at ____ and caught a really nice ____ which is extremely rare for this location....so we killed it.

It's not every day that a SoCal fisherman gets to take home a fresh ocean-caught striper. Nice change of pace for the dinner table. Just like when a Nor Cal guy gets a wsb. I think I'd have a harder time releasing a wsb if I lived in Nor Cal and caught one up there than I would down where you see them regularly. For a striper, it's not even native to the West Coast. If I got lucky and bagged a legal-sized one down here, I don't think I'd hesitate for even one second to harvest it. If it's that far from Nor Cal, chances are it won't ever make it back up there to spawn - or at least it is a lot less likely to spawn compared to the stripers hanging out near the Golden Gate.
Be the guide.
