:smt061  Hello all...with Valentine's Day just around the corner, what kayak fishing gift do you wish your significant-other would buy for you?  Gift suggestions needed for the fella in the Yakdogs photo...

OMG, Yakker's-Lady, I'm afraid you've opened a can of worms here!  A good can though!!   :smt002

I'm going to do my best to be empathetic to the significant others of my fellow yakkers...  You're here, so you care about him alot - that's very cool.  You want him to enjoy himself in his free time on the water, but you probably also want to see more of him around the house and on special outings as a couple.  Getting him something that really shows that you approve of his passtime will score you big HAF points, and, subtly, it could buy you more honey-do capital than you could've imagined!  Safety on the water is an issue that will make his trips better for both of you.  I'd look into a VHF, GPS, spare paddle or some other safety item.  Flares, whistle, mirror, bilge pump - these are all good items to have.  If he's set in that area then fishing gear may be the ticket, but watch out because he would likely want to purchase something that he chose - a gift certificate to a good fishing supply outlet could be good.  Last, we men are sometimes very complacent about using the same old, worn out PFD's, paddling jackets, booties...etc., so maybe some new yakkin' duds are in order.

I've got to say, just coming here and asking is a gift in itself.  Bravo!   :smt001

Gift Cert would be nice picking out your own gear is half the Fun. If you really want to buy something nice a custom rod(check out this gift http://www.rodbuilding.org/photopost/data/502/FredJCollageWeb.jpg)  or Gaff you can have personalized or a Kayak class like what is offered by Scallen or SBD.

I would like to suggest something like a very cool floating gaff from:
http://www.kzreelrods.com/store/ If the gaff does not interest you, the custom rods, knives, tools, accessories, apparel and Yeti coolers ALL rock!

:smt061  Thanks for the great suggestions!  The custom rod would be nice but maybe I'll save that for a special anniversary and he can pick the rod with the right "action."  The GPS sounds like a nice idea.  Are there special features that I should look for?  Again thanks for the ideas!

In the $100 range a boga grip is nice. Handy in salt water and fresh. The small is good for fresh water and the medium is good for fresh or salt. Also doubles as a fish wacker. Boga grips can be purchased at Cabelas and Bass Pro. Made in America also so good for the economy.  The kunz gaff is the best gift under $100 IMO because you can personalize it with his name and other decals. Takes a few days for EK to make them however and like the boga grip, good for the economy.:-) For GPS hand helds, I have used Garmins and have been happy. Check out Amazon for prices.
