Lake Clementine Skunk

I got out of school early and decided to take the yak out on Clementine ( North fork of the American).  Though in the past I have only caught bass and catfish out of Clementine, the lake is rumored to host a few monster browns (which I thought was odd since the water temp is pretty warm for trout).  Attempting to catch these mythical browns I trolled dodger+crawler and a rapalla.  As expected the fishing was better than the catching.  Though I didn't catch a fish, I was lucky enough to spot a family of river otters ( I will post pics if anyone is interested).

WTG, I have had my eye on Clementine since moving to Sac, just never had the time to go uo ther (except in the summer when its full of PB's...

 I wouldn't recommend driving up from sac to fish it.  I only go there because it is within walking distance of my home.  I don't kayak there in the summer, too narrow with too many drunk PBs (40mph speed limit). 

I will post pics as soon as my wife comes home from work and tells me where she has hidden the camera cable.

As expected the fishing was better than the catching. 

That's the spirit! Way to get out and play on a school day. My experience, fish don't bite when the otters/seals are around the area I am working. I guess they're spooked.

Your Pictures brought back old memories for  myself and my wife.
She spent her summers in a cabin on the west side of Lake Clementine, her parents belonged to the Auburn boat club down there in the 1960’s and they built that cabin, you can probably still see a few old boards there or a bed spring or two..
I was raised on the middle fork at the Sliger Mine and also spent time fishing the Lake. In the 60’s and 70’s there were Largemouth, Small mouth and Perch and once in a while a beaver could be seen crossing the lake as well as otter. At Robbers Roost (the caves above the lake) occasionally we would see a mountain lion or two.
As for trout I have caught rainbow at the mouth of the river in the early spring when the water was still cold and once in a while around the rocks on the east side (shaddy side) in the deeper water while smallmouth fishing.
We both graduated from Placer High School.

First and last time I was at Clementine, I was able to catch and release one SMB on a trolled shad rap along the weedline. BEAUTIFUL place!!! I especially like the boat in camp site at the opposite end of the dam.

Your welcome.  Lake Clementine is a beautiful lake.  I grew up in Auburn too, placer high class of 98  . Right now I live about a quarter mile from robbers roost.
