That mace is scary stuff.  A buddy of mine shot an elk in Wyoming, and a grizzly decided he wanted his (100%) fair share.  My buddy's hunting buddy whips out the mace, and not knowing exactly how to use it, sprays it UPWIND at the bear.  Result was all three rolling around blind, my buddy hearing this TOTALLY pissed maced bear a few feet away but being in so much pain he could barely deal with it, finally their eyes clear and they stagger away from the scene w/o the elk.  The guys could have had a really really bad day...

Figure out how to use it first or it could be an issue.

I've been fortunate to have hunted and fished in some spooky places ...it wouldn't be the same without the bears, cats and other things that go "vocal" in the night and make you change into your "brown pants"... Whenever I'm in the woods I have a way to defend myself and family if need be. If they leave me alone ... I gladly leave them alone.... I worry more about two legged varmints than four legged ones. I've seen two lions and eight bears all for non issue ...except pucker factor.

After being bitten twice, I blasted a nasty ass ranch dog in Wy with bear mace from about 5 feet away when he was in full charge....stopped dead in his tracks, quivered, quaked, then ran yipping. NEVER came nearer to me then about 15 feet after that...

Not Salinas, but saw on the news last night that another one was caught on surveillance camera in San Mateo.
A resident set up the camera because "prowlers" were reported in the area. Little did the the burglar know, he
may have been the "prowlee"!
