Hello all -

I just moved to the Delta and I interested in fishing. I live in a small town called Hood near Courtland. Not in the Hood:) What type of set up do I need on my line? Do you recommend live bait? I want to take advantage of going out on my kayak and I was planning to go somewhere in the middle of the river and drop two lines. Could you give me any recommendations regarding fishing in the Sacramento River?

What would you like to fish for most of the time?  LMB and stripers are my usual targets (plus the occasional smallmouth bass).  There are sturgeon, catfish, crappie, and other panfish are there as well.

Welcome to the madness (and the Delta).

Moving to the delta is pretty much like hitting the jackpot. : )

My favorite color for all the bass (incluing stripers) is shad or a blue  with a silver stripe from front to back.

Generally for stripers i troll large rapalas or drift large minnows

Largemouth i like using rapalas and rattletraps casting towards the bank.

Near the delta (actually a runoff of it) is snodgrass slough. Durring the striper runs i enjoy going to snodgrass slough to near the very end and drifting minnows.

If you can find the shallower boglike areas a black frog with yellow gots just kills for largemouth
Everybody should have the opportunity to fish

Driftwood, you should get familiar with Sutter slough there are some nice spots back there.  Just mind where you anchor in the warm weather (boat traffic).  I'm gonna be on the water Sunday AM in the Walnut Grove Area to see if I can pick up a striper or two.  Good Luck and you're going to love the Delta the more you fish on it.  The advice you'll get on this forum is invaluable.

Thanks for the great information. If I'm fishing for stripers or largemouth, what type of set up would I use (pound of line, weights, bait)? Would I troll or anchor and cast out? I'm new to fishing and kayaking and I appreciate everyones help. Once I get ready I'll send out a request to see if anyone would like to join me. Thanks

i mainly cast from my kayak or see a good spot and park for large mouths

but for stiper i troll alot or drift minnows

i know a lot of guys who like casting the non-jointed repalas for both

striper and largemouth.  In late february ill be going for stripers heavily
