It looks like Wally World is selling through all of the GPS units that they have in stock.

They have the Triton 300, 400 and 1500 marked at half price.

Was going to pick up one of those Tritons.....until I read the online reviews of dozens of unhappy people who had bought them. Would advise others to search out reviews on these before purchasing. Maybe they fixed the problems?   jim

It appears that the early versions of this unit were very bad but I did notice that the reviews posted in Cabelas at the latter part of '08 were pretty good. It sounds like the bugs may have been fixed but I think that i may pass on this one. What a bummer.

Xmas before last I got a Cabela's gift card which I used to pick up a Triton 400. The Triton interested me because it allowed you to load National Geographic TOPO maps directly, which I already own. I screwed around with that thing for 2 days, crashes, freezes, corrupted files. Electronic are usually second nature to me but I had to eventually call tech support (in Bangalore) and had a technician run me around in circles for god knows how long, then finally, after running out of ammo he tells me that there is only one brand of SD card approved for use in the Triton. Last I heard SD is a standard, brand names shouldn't matter... I promptly wrapped the piece of junk back up and sent it back to Cabela’s.

I was so pissed I sent a letter to NG explaining the experience in detail, and expressing my dissatisfaction with NG’s promotion of the interoperability of the two. A couple weeks later a guy claiming to be a vice-president at NG called me and quizzed me on my experience. Apparently I was not the first to write NG regarding the Triton.

My advice: Run away!

I use a triton 500, and I had some problems with magellan over it because I was trying to use their old marine map software on it. Since I got their current marine map software (preloaded on an sd card) it works fine, and I'm also using NG California and having no trouble loading topo maps of any part of CA I please. My understanding about the crashes freezes and corrupted files that some users experienced (I never did) is that those problems have been fixed by updates to the system software. I did want to be able to connect the triton to my humminbird FF but can't because the triton connector is smaller than the one humminbird has for the older magellan receivers, and as far as I can tell humminbird has no plans to update to the new connector. My only other comment is that is uses up a pair of AA batteries about every 8 hours, or even faster if you leave the screen light on the whole time.
