I was out the other day working on the bike and some other stuff.  I asked the local cycle  shop where I could find some stainless hardware.   They pointed me towards Ace Insdustrial Hardware, across from Best Buy, down the road from Aquan Sport and REI in San Carlos.  They had a decent selection of Stainless and brass hardware.  Now the next question, I don't know if it was Marine Grade or not.  But I found some lock nuts and a piece of all thread for the "Super Del Mar 285A1"  Okay I am stretching it a bit, there is nothing super about beside how much time and money I have put into it.  But if you need some basic stainless hardware they have it.  Now if I could find some aluminum bar stock with out having to go to a machine shop...

This place is great for aluminum, stainless, steel, brass channel, bar, rod and flat stock. You can walk around, find what you want and then have them cut it.  Was getting pricey last fall before the commodity markets crashed, but Alcoa and aluminum futures are in the tank so you should be able to get it at good prices now.

I was looking for some aluminum bar stock to make a set of supports for a Penn 155.  I could not find what I needed there.  They had bar stock but not anything thicker than an 1/8", and I am looking for at least a 1/4 prefer 3/8.  I deally I would love to find a set of Newell SP5's if any one has a set laying around.

Just to clarify, are you saying that you can't find aluminum bar stock at metal supermarket thicker than 1/8 inch?  They typically have aluminum bars stock from 1/8 inch all the way up to about 2 inch thickness so I am surprised if you can't find what you need there.

I asked the guy there for aluminum bar stock, he points me over to this hobby stuff, useless for I was looking for.  He might have misunderstood me, but I am really looking for something thicker than 1/16-1/8 inch

I don't know which store you are referring to but I'm sure it's not the one I referenced in my earlier link because this is an industrial metal supply shop and they don't have any hobby stuff.  This is a big warehouse with all the stock mostly lined up vertically against the wall or on steel racks.

Sorry, I was reffering to the place in San Carlos, it's and Ace hardware store. My mistake I missed the link.

I will have to try there.

If you are looking for anything off the wall, go to :

Bataeff Salvage Co
244 Mountain View Ave
Santa Rosa, CA 95407
(707) 584-8401

It is an adult junk yard with EVERYTHING. It is near Friedman Bros. at the south end of Santa Rosa, almost in Rohnert Park. Don't wear flip flops, it is a steel tip boot type of place. They will have  the bar stock aluminum too.

For Marine quality 18-8 and T316 screws, bolts, etc. I used to buy from these guys:

They have EVERYTHING in stock, and it takes about 3- 4 days to get it .

There is another great place to go to in San Leandro. This place has everything that you could ever want in scrap metal.

If you are looking for one of the best places that sells SS hardware, there is an Ace Hardware in Alameda that is awesome. They have the best selection of SS that I have seen. They also have nylon, alum and other goodies.
