Are there any areas near Fort Ross that hold halibut.

How close to Fort Ross are you talking?

The immediate area is pretty rocky (which is why we go there).  However,  south of Fort Ross; Tomales Bay, Bodega Bay, the various sandy beaches between Bodega Bay and Jenner have decent halibut populations.

My thought is if I paddle out of FR or Stllwater are there any sandy areas w/in reasonable distance that would hold 'buts.  you could do a rockfish/halibut exposition.

There is a sizeable sandy area within fort ross cove, basically just to the south of the north cape and going in about half way into the cove.

I know of halibut being caught there unexpectedly while rockfishing.  I know of one shorty caught there this year.  About 5 years ago a buddy of mine caught about a 25#er out of there on a scampi jig.

I think it's pretty random... and the water is fairly deep... about 70 or 80 feet, but they do come around from time to time... nobody targets them though... so who knows...
