Best way to keep the feet warm?

    At least some new ideas since the last time this topic came up (probably also in November!). 
    I splurged for the Sealskinz "waterproof" socks, thinking keeping dry is most of the battle, but after a few uses, they aren't, but they do provide another layer of padding for my skinny feet in my NRS Workboots, which are well made, pretty thick,  but not dry.  I also wear a thin wool sock inside the Sealskinz to avoid the clammy feeling. All of it gets wet on launch, not toasty, but not frigid.  I also wear a pair of polartec pants under my NRS farmer john, then kokatat waterproof pants on top of that which I think helps keep the feet warmer.  And I can still take a nature break without taking the john or fleece off.
    Someone on the board has those NRS boots that go up to mid-calf and likes them.  I might try those the next go-round.   

When you guys talk about loose fitting boot, how loose should they be? I just bought a pair of 5mm warmers boots and I think I might have got to small a size. Theres about 1/4" on toes to tip of shoe. I could wear 2 socks and still have a little wiggle room, but not much. Should that be ok?

Everyone is different. You will be the first to know.

OK here is my little secret with these in your boots you can soak your feet in ice water
for hours and they wont get cold just make sure that your boots don't leak and don't put them right
next to the skin and have at least 2 layers between your feet and the heat pack.

ps: you mite have to keep your feet in the water if it gets to hot  

If it's going to be cold I simply add a pair of thick wool socks inside my booties. Works like a charm.

So I think tomarrow i will try something new I'm going to put some heatpacks
in my seat to keep my bum warm I think it will work good will let know how it go's

OK, somebody has to snap a pic of Duane squattin' in the slough when his booty catches fire! 

   Maybe we ought to test out what seems to be the surfer strategy to avoiding cold feet in the water: I see surfers checking out the waves from shore wearing heavy coats but wearing flip flops and shorts all winter. When your feet are used to 40 degrees, I guess water at 50 feels warm.   

Keep 'em moving on a Mirage Drive and keep the blood flowing.

Which is:   Good neoprene wetsuit booties WITH the best thick wool REI hiking socks.

Neoprene booties alone will leave you with cold feet.

I like Thorlo's, I have worn them everywhere and they never fail me, thy have excellent wicking capabilities offer good support and hold up great, I still have the ones I wore for a year in Iraq in 130+ weather and the only problem I have ever had is I wear holes out in the toe, not a fault of the sock I have weird toe nails that curve upwards and tend to wear out socks in general.  I still use them for hiking, riding my Harley in any weather condition and my feet don't get cold
