well this is my first fishing report post, hopefully the first of many this year. :smt002 well got off to a late start and launched from memorial beach around 10:30 in a light mist which subsided within 5 minutes on the water. the fishing was very slow to say the least, did hook one steelhead and got two good jumps before it threw the fly.  this was about 200 yrds below the dry creek hole. that was all the fish excitement for the day but not the end of the excitement. as the day wore on i got a little, shall we say distracted in thought and was not paying attention to the river, next thing i know i am in a huge over hanging tree, stuck and knowing that the awful sound i just heard was my T3 fly rod going from a 4 piece to a 6 piece. broke the top four inches of the tip and an inch above the cork. :smt013 ouch. good thing for lifetime warranties. finished the rest of the day a little more focused, but still no fish, and pulled out at wholer bridge. water is low and it looks like no rain for at least 12 days, so time to focus elsewhere. cameron

Nice first fishing report bwodun.  I too hope it is the first of many to come.  Hope all goes well with the exchange of the rod.

BTW, do you paddle an orange yak?  If so, be careful on the Russian. :smt003

I've been pretty rough on rods due to the thoughtless adventure or two, only snapped one cheap one so far.

Nice report though, looking forward to more.

hey dillbeck, i paddle a yellow tarpon140, so thats not really a concern for me, also been fishing this river a few years now and have a good relationship with most of the people who fish it. in fact got some help from a few bank fisherman yesterday carring my yak up to the parking lot through mud, since i left the straps to my cart in the truck at the launch, doh.

OUCH!

I leave the fly rod at home most of the time when I am going to be on the yak, simply because I have broken 2 rods while kayaking, and had many more close calls than I care to repeat....

Perhaps I will use the fly rod a bit more this year...but I really like them being in a factory determined $ of pieces  :smt004

good luck with the return  :smt001

One fish on is pretty good action considering how easy it is to get skunked on Steelies.  The rush from it keeps you going for the rest of the session too.  Thanks for the report.   :smt001

Nice work and thanks for the report.  Hope we get some more rain soon, I live about 5 minutes from Memorial Beach, so I'm looking forward to some water in that area as well.

Late,

Norm
