Hey has anyone heard of or experienced fishing for dinos in the lower Napa river? I figure anywhere the stripers go so can a sturgy... could be a lot cleaner and calmer place to go for them closer to home.

Funny you should mention it. I am planning on launching out of Vallejo on Monday and/or Tuesday to paddle upstream and scout for some likely spots. Company is certainly welcome if you would like to come along.  :smt006

I'll post a hook up sometime this weekend.  :smt003

High tide will be around 12:30 on Monday, 1:20 on Tuesday. I'm thinking we should launch two or three hours before high tide to ride the incoming upstream, and then ride the outgoing back to the launch in the afternoon.

My brother is flying in late Tuesday night for a visit, so all of this is dependent upon having the WAF to get out 3 days in a row before we host my brother and his wife for a week.

It is a common spot for dinos, as is the Petaluma, and Sonoma Cr.

i launched out of cutting warf about a month ago and paddled down around coon island and back into devils sloughlooking for stripers, and i passed a power boat anchored up about at the big bend, when i came back down they were screaming and i thought that they were into a big striper but as i came up along side i realized it was a large sturgeoun, it was over the limit, they were claming 7 1/2 feet in length and the splash and fight i saw i would not disclaim that.

I watched someone land a 57" Sturgie on the dock at Cutting's Wharf.
The fishing was so good I thought I was there yesterday!

Hmmm, might be worth a try... I figure it's more protected there also.
