Went out today on my power boat for my first sturgeon trip of the year. Hooked a nice 47" fish in the evening outgo from The Ozol area just west of the martinez marina. Used uncured roe. Has any one tried for sturgeon from Ozol? Its 5 minutes out of martinez marina and very protected from the wind and power boats. Theres a large mud flat 2'-12' deep that drops fast to 24'-40'depths. I've caught sturgeon in the area in less than 7' of water on a fast incoming tide. If its incoming tide I'll fish shallow or on the top edge of drop offs, for the outgo fish deep or the bottom edges of drop offs. Looks like it would be kayak friendly fishing spot. Theres also a large shallow mud flat that drops to deep water just outside the benicia marina that looks like it would be kayak safe, though I havn't tried for sturgeon from that area.

Hey good looking fish,

As I live in Mtz I've often thought about Ozol, I fished there years ago in a pb and did well on and off, I think if one wanted too they could launch from behind the Santa Fe office (far west end of the waterfront area).  From there it's really close.

I attached a link to a map, maybe it'll work.

Nice job on the dino. And thanks for the info. I drive across the bridge a lot and everytime I do, I wonder about launching out there for some sturg action. One fo these days...

I went over to Livermore today to buy another kayak :smt003 a trident 15 prowler. I am so jacked. Anyway, as we were going by Benecia I could see a small bay down to the right and was wondering if anyone fishes that. Going across the Martinez bridge we saw lots of power boats on the hook which didn't look to kayak freindly way out there. I would be willing to try a protected area for sturgeon someday. Craig
